News Update March 2010 - 02/03/2010
The winter of 2009 – 2010 has been one of the hardest that we have experienced in this area for at least the last 20 years. The Temperature has barely got above freezing even during the day and at one point we had 18inches of snow. Fortunately we did not have any funerals during the snowy spell as it would have been quite a challenge to carry out a funeral in those conditions. When the snow did melt there was quite widespread flooding in the locality but apart from the pond overflowing covering some of the road the site held up well. Spring is fast approaching and there are buds on the blackthorn hedging already. The Sky larks are still singing and when the sun does come out it is very pleasant. I managed to mow the wild flower meadow in the autumn which is the first time in three years as the ground was two wet in 07 and 08 when we had those awful wet summers.
The Swans have visited again this year as they have done for the last 5 years. They did build a nest two years ago but did not use it fingers crossed for this year as I would love to see them nest, although I suspect there may be too much activity here for them to settle.
We will start lambing at the begging of April which is a lot later than I have done in the past but I am so pleased about that in light of the weather we have had recently. This is a picture of one of the lambs born last year.
